The Danish Week at Vihula Manor Country Club & Spa

Date:
Friday, November 6, 2015

On November 6, the Danish Week opening night will take place at Vihula Manor Country Club & Spa with a gala dinner by Danish Chef de Cuisine, Jesper Brinkløv

Vihula Manor Country Club & Spa, a part of the Unique Hotels hotel chain, will be hosting the Danish Week from November 6-15. The week will focus on topics such as Danish cuisine, culture, lifestyle and Estonian-Danish business relations. During the Danish Week, a Danish business delegation from the municipality of Vordingborg and the co-owner and Head Chef of restaurant Borgen, Jesper Brinkløv, will visit Estonia. A sales exhibition by Danish painter and ceramicist Søren Kent is also open at the Manor.

“The Danish Week is the first event in a new series of events at Vihula Manor that introduce the cuisines and cultures of the various Nordic countries. We are starting off with Denmark as the roots of Vihula Manor reach back to the Danish medieval history. Namely, the Danish knight Odvard von Lode accompanied the King of Denmark, Canute VI during his Crusade against the Pagan Estonia in 1197, and in return, the King gifted von Lode with great plots of land in Northern Estonia. Most likely, von Lode also became the owner of the Vihula lands and built the manor there at the end of the 12th century,” said the sales director of Vihula Manor, Joel Bezzaborkin.

On Friday, November 6, the Danish Week will be declared open by the Danish Ambassador to Estonia, Søren Kelstrup. Saturday, November 7, is dedicated to entrepreneurship and Estonian-Danish business relations. A “Danish House” will be opened in the Manor’s Palm House, where various companies that are located in Estonia and have their roots in Denmark are represented and where the Danish-Estonian Chamber of Commerce will give an overview of Danish investments in Estonia and the business relations between the two countries. Additionally, a seminar on the “Medieval links between Estonia and Denmark and tourism between the two countries” will be held, where the members of the business delegation from Vordingborg will take the stage.

During the whole week, guests can enjoy a special menu composed by the head chef of the popular Danish restaurant Borgen, Jesper Brinkløv; visit the exhibition of Danish painter and ceramicist Søren Kent in the Manor’s Conference Centre and learn more about Denmark at the exhibition in the Manor’s Oil Granary about “The Happy People of Denmark”. The Danish Week will be concluded with a concert by Danish musicians Michael Sunding and Mads Vinding who will offer a Jazzy musical experience in Vihula Manor’s restaurant La Boheme on November 15 at 3 PM.

Vihula Manor is organising the Danish Week in cooperation with the Danish Embassy and the Danish-Estonian Chamber of Commerce. The Danish Week, beginning on November 6, invites everyone to enjoy the wonderful cuisine and culture of Denmark in Vihula Manor, located in the untouched nature of Lahemaa National Park.
